A Long Journey
my Story
Hello, my name is Shyloe Ajayi. I am a wife, a daughter, a fashionista, a grief coach, a Christian counselor, and a self-made nutritionist. I was born and raised in Northern California to my amazing parents, Woodrow and Leslie. I am a Howard University alumni.
My husband (Josh) and I had the privilege of going into the full-time ministry after college and serving God as missionaries in Africa.
Although, my life has been amazing and fruitful, I have experienced much pain and grief throughout the years. From the time I was 8 years old, the world seemed unpredictable to me when my cousin Mary died from cancer. By the age of 15, my eldest sister Rosalind died unexpectedly at our annual family camping retreat(2007). When I reached 22 years old, my father died suddenly(2014) on his way to the hospital. A year later(2015), my grandfather passed away. In 2019, I sadly lost my grandmother unexpectedly in her home.
By 2022, my mother’s health worsened and severely declined. She died on December 26th. In between those years, I lost uncles, aunties, pets and friends. However, after losing my mom recently, I couldn’t keep quiet or silent about my grief. I had to share and speak about my pain and experiences. I told myself that I have gone through too much grief to not give it a voice. I needed an outlet and a platform to express my pain and to help others with their grief. This is how the grief lounge was born.
Our Vision
My husband and I started the Grief Lounge because we are passionate about dealing with grief in a godly way. We wanted to create a safe space for me to share my experiences, thoughts, emotions, pain, resources and faith. We also wanted to give a voice to grief and bring awareness to something called “overload grief” which means, grieving more than one death. As grievers, we can desire comfort and healing. I believe that healing comes from God but also through sharing your pain and helping others.
My overwhelming grief motivated me to get to this point to share my story with you. I hope and pray you find this godly platform helpful and encouraging as you grieve or learn to help someone you know grieve.
Welcome to the Grief lounge, where we speak about “this, that and grief”!
